CURRENTLY we are working to
overturn the Smoking Ban and are investigating avenues whereby we can challenge
it. These avenues include a possible challenge through the Superior court, the
state supreme court or a legislative action.
About 85% of alcohol service employees and owners are female.
Our initial research into the effects of smoking bans in other states shows up to 70% of Arizona alcohol service establishments may be put out of business or severely harmed financially in a direct consequence of the implementation of both propositions. Using this percentage number, of about 5400 establishments state wide, well over 3500 are in jeopardy of closure or will be forced to implement significant employment reductions. Using an average establishment workforce number of 11 employees as a baseline, women's job losses could easily number 24,000 to 28,000. Other models show these losses reaching over 30,000.
If you are an establishment owner, manager or employee in or related to the alcohol service industry, please join us in this effort - it is your business or job that may well be on the line.
If you are an owner, employee or patron who enjoys the right to smoke, we ask for your support.
It should be noted that the Arizona Licensed Beverage Association
(ALBA) does not support our cause nor is it to our knowledge fighting for your
establishments' smoking rights. It appears that ALBA is in opposition to our
petition drive and fundraising activities and is willing to accept your losses.
It appears that ALBA is in a protectionist mode and views us as dangerous
competition. If you are satisfied with the law, we understand. However, we will
continue to fight for the rights of those business owners and patrons who are
against and are being harmed by the ban!
